ANDY'S ANSWER: Unfortunately, there's not much you can do about your period except be prepared.

A heavier-flow tampon than you usually use may be needed because often physical activity can increase your blood flow. (The plus side to that is that your period will be shorter because the blood will come out faster.)

Also its a good idea to wear a panty-liner to catch any excess if it happens.
