Erections are normal throughout one's whole life. Even male babies sometimes have them. Of course the primary reason in adults and teens is sexual excitement, but many boys get erections if they get nervous or frightened and sometimes for no apparent reason at all. When the storage area of your body (the ampulla) gets full of sperm and you don't empty it by ejaculating, the sperm may trickle down into the urethra tube and be washed away when you urinate, or you may experience a wet dream.
A wet dream (nocturnal emission) happens while you are asleep. To many boys, the experience of waking up to a wet bed and pajamas is mortifying. Some think they have wet the bed or maybe are bleeding, but the fluid that comes out while you sleep is actually the excess semen and sperm that your body no longer has room for. A wet dream is a natural and normal way for your body to empty out the ampulla and make room for the new sperm your testicles are producing.
